My Book Review > 'My Not so perfect life', by Sophie Kinsella

“I think I’ve finally worked out how to feel good about life. Every time you see someone’s bright-and-shiny, remember: they have their own crappy truths, too. Of course they do. And every time your own crappy truth and feel despair and think: ‘Is this my life…?’ you should remember: it’s not. Everyone’s got a bright-and-shiny, even if it’s hard to find sometimes”.

Living in London has always been Katie’s dream. But, even if she pretends she has a Perfect Life (a flat in London, a glamorous job…), reality is different. And when she’s (unfairly) fired from her job, her life turns into a nightmare; she soon has no choice but to retreat to her dad’s farm in Somerset and help him set up a vacation business. But she doesn’t forget her dream. One day, her former boss, Demeter, unexpectedly turns up as a guest… Should she get revenge on her? Well, the funny thing is that she soon realizes that in spite of glittering appearances Demeter’s life is not so perfect and that they both have more in common than she thought.
